Beer Garden
The Beer Garden at the Standard Hotel is a must see in New York City. It fills a small parcel of leftover space just under the High Line. Impeccably designed, it offers a small bar, food service, ping pong tables, communal tables and a covered barn style eating area. I loved how the vertical steel members were painted freshly black and then planted with ferns. The outdoor lighting reminded me of Urban Electric models as they were industrial appropriate and shined a dated yellow haze. Seating areas were hemmed in with gritty urban steel planters and planted with selections you might see above on the High Line. Recycled railway ties are now planters containing a palette of simple box. A great specimen of positive open space, long on funky, I would definitely recommend a visit.
